How to write your own verse Writing a clever verse is something which takes a certain skill. Some people seem to be born professional rhymers! Are you one of them?

Firstly you need: A pen or a pencil. May I suggest a pencil? Even for a professional writing verses in ink is impossible if you don’t want the paper to look as if a 3 year old has been left alone with it. An eraser. For the above reason. Paper. Lots. A rhyming dictionary. And finally... A brain. Ideally a pretty well functioning one. Let’s get on with it! |

The first thing you need to do is to decide on a rhythm. The rhythm is one of the most important parts of the verse, since this is what it all swirls around. Read our advice to be sure to get it right from the start! |

You may want to write your verse using alliteration. This is where you start most words using the same sound, such as Celebrate Celia.

Somtimes it's hard to manage to get into one single line, what you want to say, or you may have difficulty rhyming on the word that keeps turning up at the end of the line. This is where enjambment comes in to it.
